Christmas Letter 2017

Dear friends,
Right now, as I am sitting and writing this letter to you, I stop for a moment to look through my window at the view of trees covered by snow. I hear my children playing in the other room as I type, and I smile. During the winter holidays I usually listen to Christmas songs and often sing them with my family and friends. In our home we put our tree up early and we remove it as late as we can. The children like seeing its lights on as they run around it, often for hours. I really enjoy this time of the year.
This is the season when I see people coming together to celebrate, to pray, to give thanks and to enjoy each other’s company. During this time I see people putting troubles and problems aside, at least for a little while, to just be with each other and experience each other’s smiles and laughter and share stories of the previous or earlier years.
This is a time when many of us travel to re-unite with our loved ones, in order to just be with them during the holidays. This is a time when many of us put in an extraordinary effort to be charitable and giving, in hopes of increasing the joy and well-being of those less fortunate. Some celebrate Jesus’s birthday, other do not. Yet, during this time the planet’s mood seems to be uplifted, if only for a few days. During this time we hug, we kiss, we dance and sing. We cook together and dress up, as we open the doors to our hearts.
This is a very important season in our lives, as it reminds us of truths often forgotten when we are focused on our day-to-day challenges: the value of living, the beauty of existing and the gift of having others in our lives.
I like reminding myself during this time that the best I can do in my life, I believe, is to strive to live with a heart full of love, a mind that seeks truth, and a character that stands strong no matter the circumstances.
I hope this season is a time when we can all recharge ourselves by the love we give and receive, and that we go on living a more meaningful life, lived for the sake of goodness.
And when we depart from our loved ones, I hope we embrace each other as if it was the last time we will ever have to express the love we feel for each other.
Thank you for being part of my life.
With love,
Edgar Boone
