DREAMER
16 Oct 2015
"YOU MAY SAY I'M A DREAMER, BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE."
John Lennon
If we let the possibility of a better future die in our minds and our hearts, our reality will not improve. If we let hope die, if we don't imagine worlds not created, things not built, inventions not invented, and art not expressed, we are going to live a gray life, we are going to live in darkness.
Children and child-like adults who still have not succumbed to the cruelty of the world are our hope. They are the future creators, builders and artists because they are our dreamers. They are the ones who said "I'd like to fly," they are the ones who question "why does an apple fall from a tree?", and they are the ones who sing from a place we all cherish but can not always access.
Dreamers are our lovers of life, they are the ones who still smile. They are the ones who asked: "Can I run a mile in less the four minutes?" They are the ones who do not chase money, they create wealth; they are the ones who see beauty in every child, adult and elder.
They are the ones who stand up to suppression to change their communities and homes. They are the ones who say: "IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY." They are the ones who, even if scared, dare to try. They are the ones who choose compassion over hate, who choose to embrace rather than go to war. They are the ones who tell you, "I love you," when you're angry at them.
Dreamers wonder about the nature of the moon and the stars, they think about the source of creation and our place in it. They are the ones who harnessed electricity for our use, they are the ones who thought, "Why can't computers be more personal to use?" and built one. They are the ones who designed our shoes, our jeans and t-shirts.
They are the ones who study and conduct experiments to make things better, not just to make a living. Dreamers are still innocent in their hearts and open in their minds. Dreamers are those who still feel pain and cry over the violence of the world. They are the ones who look at you and see your soul, not only your body.
Dreamers, yes, dreamers are our hope, our future and potential. Dreamers are valuable even if they seem crazy, even when they don't seem to fit any mold. Dreamers make new molds, expanding our ways. Dreamers, yes dreamers, are happier and lighter; dreamers have not given up.
Let's build a place for dreamers, where they can play, think, work and produce. Let's build a protected place for them to be safe to explore. Let's not burn or block their books, let's not shut down their ideas or stop them from risking new adventures. Let's not critique them, as in their hands lies our tomorrow. Dreamers--if you see one, say thank you and help them if you can.
If you are one, know what you mean to the world. If you have given up, know your quitting takes us all down into the abyss. Do not let your inner dreamer die; let it shine, let it out to be what it may, to do what is needed. Let your dreamer say: I am no robot, I am not a machine of routine or a rudderless ship carried by whims.
You are a dreamer if you still believe things can be better. Take a step, take another, hold another's hand and walk the walk. Spread the word. The future is ours, ours to choose and create, first in our minds and hearts, then out into the world.
I know you are a dreamer, because you are still here, I'm looking at you, at your mind and your hopes and I say to you: "Why not?"
Dare my friend, dare. And if you fall, stand up; that's what makes it worth it and fun. Keep the light on in you and the world will be brighter. Be a dreamer to another and you light the fire of the world. A world of fire and passion would challenge its limits, so we can make true what our inner dreamer always wanted.
Go on my friend and dream your dreams, make them bigger, land them in the now and take a step towards them. Remember we all benefit from your walk.
In you we have faith.
