THE RIGHT TO OUR LIFE
23 Nov 2014
Don’t be a fool, don’t risk what you have, don’t be who you are, don’t do that, don’t be crazy, don’t, don’t, don’t.
How many times have we listen to these words? How many times have we been told to not do so something we love? How many times other’s fears want to stop us from going beyond where we are?
How many more times do we stop ourselves for fear of not being accepted? How many times have we not dared into new territories because we fear the unknown? How many more times have we suppressed our joy because it may shine to bright in the middle of a world of darkness?
How many times?
How long would it take for us to say enough? How long does it take for us to be fed up with mediocrity? How much pain do we need to endure until we say: I choose life! I choose joy! I choose work! I choose passion! I choose! I choose! I choose! I choose my life!
For better or worse, for good or for bad, we choose our life and nothing and no one can take this away from us. If we feel we need to obey other’s wishes, lets own that that’s what we’re dong. If we choose to be submissive for fear of being punished, lets own our weakness. If we choose to deny the responsibilities of living, lets own our laziness or incapacities, but lets never deny that we have the power to choose, that we have choice and that we have lead our life to where it is.
It may be right, it may be wrong, it may be just, it may be unjust. No matter the morals, we have participated in leading ourselves to where we are.
If we own this, we may have an opportunity to change our ways. If we deny our responsibility of having created or participated in creating our current circumstances, we will always live believing that we are powerless, impotent and at the mercy of people and events.
Is that what we want?
I don’t think so. I do not.
What would happen if suddenly one person says: Enough! I’m not going to take the bullshit of the world and make it mine! I’m not going to take lies and make them truths! I’m not going to choose mediocrity just to be normal and accepted! No, no, no!
We have the right to our life as much as any other and the only way we can exercise this right is by choosing, by choosing the direction of our lives. This may encounter opposition, but so what! If we don’t acknowledge this right, be sure someone will take it and use to their benefit.
Lets live as we may and own what comes from our choices. Lets pick ourselves up when we’re down and kneel when we’re up to remember where we come from. Let’s always remember our dignity, our personhood; lets always remember that we are, that we exist, that we are human and that we have the right to our life.
With love,
Edgar Boone
